Eamon Winden’s research is focused on constructing a system for in vitro fabrication of very large DNA molecules. The ability to easily synthesize genomes advances bioscience by empowering researchers to answer new questions as well as to provide the basis for “new” genetics. While molecules have been chemically synthesized tens of thousands of base pairs long, very small genomes are orders of magnitude greater. Eamon and colleagues aim to comprehensively exploit the unique and often avoided physical characteristics of very large DNA molecules through the establishment of an in vitro system for genome fabrication that would complement cell-based approaches.
