Juan Diaz Rodriguez’ research is focused on engineering next-generation probiotics to treat cardiovasular disease. His and his colleagues’ aim is to engineer lytic proteins such as bacteriolysins and phage lysins as next generation probiotics to reduce the abundance of (trimethylamine) producing bacteria in the gut. Manipulating the composition of the gut microbiome and its metabolites holds tremendous potential to treat a wide variety of human diseases.
