My research focus is studying the mechanisms by which global gene expression is regulated by kin28, an essential kinase, involved in phosphorylation of the C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II. In order to study kin28-mediated regulation of transcription and to begin to understand the relevance of the CTD code, kin28 will be irreversibly inhibited in vivo, and global gene expression profiles analyzed. The long-term goal is to construct a complete genome-wide CTD modification profile using computational, bioinformatics, and biochemical approaches.
